Morning everybody! It’s looking like another pleasant fall Sunday here in Central Indiana, so how about something completely different. This is a snippet from my latest project, On the Rebound. This is a contemporary romance set on a college campus involving a women’s basketball team.
Here is the opening scene, in which we meet the hero, Greg Miller, whose recent past hasn’t been very heroic. I’m in the earliest stages of this project, so I’d love to know what you think. Thanks and have a great Sunday!
Greg Miller knew the first day at his new job would be tough. He didn’t expect it to be this tough, though.
“So what makes a cheater like you think you even deserve another chance on the sideline?”
Greg shrugged the question off. He knew he wasn’t a cheater. The problem was that the only people in the world who knew for a fact he wasn’t a cheater, were admitted cheats themselves.
Leaning forward in his chair, he rested his folded hands on top of his desk. He swallowed, his throat dry. All he’d ever wanted to do was coach college basketball. The last couple of years out of the game had been pure hell. He loved the game more than anything. He ate, drank and slept college hoops. And now that he was back, he was scared to death. This was the hardest part–being honest without looking like a fool. Being sincere without coming across as flip.
